Music Documentaries

Favela On Blast
These trailers look mucho exciting. Favela On Blast could well be the definitive account of all things Baile Funky. With Diplo at the helm it's sure to be a sonic assault of the senses if nothing else. Can't see a release date anywhere, but hopefully we wont have to wait too much longer.

Part Of The Weekend Never Dies
POTWND had its world premiere in London's Southbank last week. The Belgian electro rockers Soulwax aka 2manydj's unleash their tour movie onto the world. 2 years in the making, 120 shows, feat the likes of Tiga, Justice, So-Me, Peaches, Kitsuné, and Klaxons. It should make for a nice night in.

Jahtari - Digital Laptop Reggae

I came across Disrupt at a listening post in Rough Trade. The record was Foundation Bit, it gave me an ear-ache but a pleasing one, like I was hearing frequencies previously unbeknownst to humans. The bass lines were punchy with noodleings of 8-Bit samples; I quickly scribbled the name down for later downloading ;-) To my amazement and a few googles later I quickly stumbled across the Jahtari Label. A Mecca of mix tapes and free Dub cuts and loads loads more. The mixes are amazing, listening to one right now and my girlfriend who doesnt usually dig reggae is grooving to it while doing her make-up. Did I mention that I recommend all the mixes? Below is a taster of the music Jathari specialise in; glorious Casio tinged Laptop Ragga. This 7 inch net release is by the aforementioned Disrupt.

Neon Skullz Mix on Man Bites Blog

Ditto previous post.. Neon Skullz why aren't you famous yet? You fucking should be! This mix was mangled up specially for Man Bite Blog, and for that I am eternally thankful. You you may recall EP:04 which featured the great man himself. This time Neon Skullz showcases his mixing talents as he splices together Grime, Baillefunk, and Crunk with a capital G B and C. The result: electronic evilness of the highest order! Click here to download.

Theophilus London Jam! Mixtape

Theophulus London why arent you famous yet?.. You fucking should be!! This mixtape was thrown together by Machinedrum - electronica wizkid of the highest order - and its totally bad boy. In my opinion Theopulus London embodies all that is right with hip hop at the moment. A sound that's frenetic, with savvy word play, and a palette of influences that reads like a thesis in cool-hunting! Get this before it expires.

Enjoyed: A Tribute To Björk's Post

The proactive peeps at Stereogum have orchestrated another one of their fabulous tribute projects. Björk's album Post gets the rework treatment this time around. Highlights being Dirty Projectors's cerebral re-telling of Hyperballad and Bell's frenetic version of It's Oh So Quiet.

you should see the enjoyed player here if you have flash

Flying Lotus Album Launch Bouncy BBQ Dilema

Sorry for the poor scan. Venue EC2 TBC 14th June

FlyLo's album launch conflicts with a good friends party. They are both rilling for my attention, what can I say? I'm torn. In a bid to out do each other Flying Lotus is laying on a BBQ, in a warehouse, with a live band in anticipation of his fourthcoming album Califronia on Warp. That's sure to fuel some sweet Cali Vibes. But Oh wait.. Not only is my friend rolling out a BBQ feat. Sausages from Clive no doubt. In a well executed counterstrike, he's also getting a full size bouncy castle. I think I may just have to go to both.
More info to come on FlyLo's myspace.
In the meanwhile here's a mix he did for The Breezeblock last year, Flylo not my mate :-p

EPISODE 05: Man Bites Blog Podcast feat. Mathieu

Its a special show with a Special guest. Mathieu returns to the pod for his second sitting at MBBP. Join us as we serenade through a swansong of musical mayhem. Gypsy-Lowrider-Folk, Russian Nussery Rhyme, and Elctroclash all skrewed and chopped to fit neatly into the musical player of your choosing. But enough with the hyperbole...

NB tracklist can be found lurking inside the comment section.

Baltimore Gutter Music

Oh my Oh my... and another Oh my! Excuse me while I gush with excitement, an Aaron LaCrate B'more party with Ronson and Seb Chew fronting the after party at Plastic People right here in London town... Oh my oh my.

My Gucci Sweatshirt

I think Turbo Crunk is killing this guy too...

LE LE - Breakfast

Had I seen this the other day I would have posted it with the other clips. This new Le Le video is by Piet Parra and it gives le petit dejeuner a bad name. Fans will recognise his destinct graphic design, he's done stuff for Justice you've probably seen. It's just too good to let this slip by.

Megasoid X Sixtoo = TURBO CRUNK!

Turbo Crunk, Lazer Bass, Glitch hop... Whatever you want to call it, this bastard child of Hip Hop is killing me at the moment. One of the main perpetrators is Sixtoo, a Montreal based beatmaker and mastermind of the notorius Megasoid parties. Below you will see a Megasoid mix, and a set Sixtoo did for a french Podcast called Masala. All of the aforementioned deserve your attention, the mixes are a roll-call of the key players of this emerging scene Lazer Sword, Fly-Lo, eDit etc etc and the masala podcast is formidable even if you cant speak French... Just dont forget about mine :-p

PS Those of you waiting for a MBBP Turbo Crunk podcast, hold tight, it's high on my to do list.

Sorry Megaupload only.. so nab it quicksmart mofo's :-p

Oh yeah, and this is how Megasoid rolls.. Ka-Blam!!

Looks bad-boy doesn't it?

EPISODE 04: MBBP feat. Neon Skullz

I have been rather productive of late. Ep: 04 is rolling out hot on the heels of my recent trip to Liverpool. Compiled with the help of my dear friend Shaun aka Neon Skullz, this show is another breakneck bootleg of beats and bastard-pop. Listen out for Voodoo Rave, ATL Crunk, and Baille Funk. As they say up North.. it’s Boss La’!

Download MBBP EP:04

Also here is a link to the mixtape sampler mentioned in Ep: 04. A nice taster of Diplo and DJ Benzi's collabartion with Paper Route Gangstaz.

Radiohead Remixed

Fans of Radiohead have been spoilt of late, Thom Yorke's solo offering The Eraser was a highlight of 07 ad I need not even mention the merit of In Rainbows. Both these records were rapidly embraced by the musical community. The Eraser spawned a 3 part remix series released on 12 inch and In Rainbows has been reworked, re-jigged, and regurgitated into a veritable feast of bootlegs. Tap any track into hypem if you don't believe me. You will find Math Rock, Baltimore Booty, even Dubstep renderings of the boys from Oxford.
For your listening pleasure I have selected 3 of my paticular favorites. The AmpLive track is taken from a complete re-working of In-Rainbows available for free here... Where did he get that idea from?

AmpLive - Videotapez.mp3

Thom Yorke - Analyse (Various Remix).mp3

Radiohead - Nude (Holy Fuck).mp3

Bjork Wanderlust

The wait is over! Bjork's latest video for Wanderlust can be watched here. Intended to be seen in glorious 3D it's still a visual treat in ye olde 2D. I won't rub it in that I got to see this as the directors intended at Bug 06 last week. It was breathtaking.
